People making comments about how she is “just doing it for the money” are ignorant to how the canadian civil law system works. Canadians can’t abuse the law for quick paydays like you see in the USA. Unlike the USA, punitive damages are minimal at best if at all in Canada; most of this money will go to exactly what the article notes: ”2 years of credit monitoring services and fraud insurance coverage for PSN and SOE customers”. These are compensatory damages as they are costs that those in the lawsuit will be out of pocket to protect themselves from identity theft which was caused by Sony.

Identity theft is a huge headache and can cost tens of thousands of dollars to correct and years to do so.
